We purchased an earlier edition of Nick Russell's guide several years ago and then proceeded to try out at least 27 places he had mentioned. We discovered some beautiful spots we would have by passed without the" Guide to Free Campgrounds and Overnight Parking Spots" To better point out its value we spent an entire month camping through 4 states for a total of $34.00!

Guide To Free Campgrounds Overnight Parking Spots eBook Gypsy Journal Reviews
I have not had a chance to use this book, but in going thru it, I believe it will be great
This little book will return the price of purchase in just one night. It's a must-have for us.
I only wish we'd found it a few years ago when we would frequently pay $30 or $40 just to stop for an overnight.
No more of that. Now unless we need electricity (rarely, we have a gen) or water, we just consult our little book by Nick Russell.
First time you stop overnight to sleep at one of the places recommended in this booklet, you'll be happy you did! Spend the saved money on something more fun! Like another book!
A reasonable guide for the money, especially since it compiles information of free/reduced camping by state and town as opposed to trying to find out the same information on the Internet. At this point, an update might be useful.
Bought this book and within 2 months had my money back in my pocket. This is a wonderful guide listed alphabetically by states and cities. You can't go wrong. Thank you Nick.
I don't know if the number of listings is a result of lack of free campgrounds or lack of research. A far shorter list than I would have hoped. Not much listed for California compared to other states.
Only had the book for a short time and have only been out camping twice. The book gives some great suggestions and that is how it should be taken -- suggestions. A couple of the places have changed their policies; others are more-or-less 'let's see if you can get away with it' kind of places. Other than these kinds of uncertainties, the book has some great suggestions and ideas on where to find these places.
Even listing the exceptions would mean that those could change the other way when my review is read many months from now. Just take the book as suggestive without guaranteeing the site. Be prepared to 'move on' and find another place to camp and not being disappointed if the site has changed since the book was published. With that kind of expectancy, you'll love the book.
Pretty good list, but I wish the writers would have included a table on contents, at least state by state. It's no fun searching through so many pages in kindle, flipping one by one. It also would have been really helpful to include zip codes or GPS coordinates (longitude/latitude). You're going to have to do a lot of research on your own, pre-RoadTrip, to make this book useful.
